NORTHFIELD — Tanya Gaylord, who was the treasurer for the Pioneer Valley Regional School District since January, was hired to be the district’s director of finance at the School Committee meeting Thursday night.
“I’m happy to take on the role and work with the new superintendent,” Gaylord said.
Gaylord said she will effectively be filling the role of business manager, which was previously filled by Ruth Miller, who was also the district’s superintendent. Miller left her job with the district in June, but hadn’t attended School Committee meetings since April. In her absence, Gaylord had been providing financial information and advice at the School Committee meetings on a volunteer basis.
“It’s been a long month or two,” she said.
Before becoming the Pioneer district’s treasurer, Gaylord had worked as the accountant for the town of Ashburnham, where, she said, she worked closely with the superintendent of the Ashburnham Westminster school district. Prior to that, she held various other accountant jobs.
Gaylord’s new job pays $60,000 per year for 24 hours of work per week. The contract is for one year, but may be renewed contingent upon a performance evaluation that must be done by April 1, 2019. The contract also stipulates that Gaylord pursue certification to be a business manager.
